New Zealand Herald Interview with Trudy MacDonald

In this recently published article in the NZ Herald, Trudy MacDonald – Managing Director of Talent Code was interviewed on the implications for hiring staff in the current economic climate.

A good fit is vital when taking on employees and one bad hire can have a lasting impact, says Trudy MacDonald.

Trudy highlights 3 key factors that Small to Medium sized businesses should consider if they want to make the right hiring decisions for their business:

1)    Aligned your hiring strategy with your business strategy – understand where your business is heading, what skills you will need in the future to be successful and use this to plan your hiring needs.

2)    Understand and actively promote why people should work for your company – the best people are not usually looking for jobs, you need to have a clear strategy around attracting great people to you business…and money is not always the reason why people change jobs.

3)    Consider outsourcing – too many small businesses try to do everything in-house without the required expertise or time. This dilutes focus on what they do best. Consider outsourcing functions such as marketing, human resources and finance.
